Neptune Changing Signs, A Change of Perspective, A Change of Projection

Neptune is on the verge of changing signs. Neptune which is presently in Aquarius, a fixed air sign is about to enter Pisces, a mutable water sign. Neptune has been in Aquarius since January 29, 1998, it will move into Pisces on April 4, 2011 and will remain there for thirteen years except for a retreat back into Aquarius from August 5, 2011 through February 3, 2012. Neptune moving into Pisces is moving into its sign of rulership, it is said to be at home here. Neptune was last in Pisces 165 years ago .

Uranus which is considered the higher octave of Mercury relates to how we think within the world. Neptune relates to how we view the world, our feelings and perceptions about the things we see around us, what we dream, our inspirations. Neptune has to do with what we project onto the world.

Projection in the Freudian sense is a psychological defense system whereby one ” projects” one’s own undesirable thoughts, motivations, desires and motivations onto someone else. ”The Shadow” , a term used in Jungian psychology refers to projected material. Jungians consider that ”Political agitation in all countries is full of such projections, just as much as the backyard gossip of little groups and individuals . The Swiss Jungian psychologist Marie-Louise von Franz felt that wherever known reality stops, ” we project an archetypal image” In other words we start creating our own reality.

So what kind of reality have we been spinning since Neptune has been in Aquarius. You need to look at the qualities’ of Aquarius to ascertain the dreams we have been dreaming. The two key words would be fixed and air . Fixed has to do with something that is attached , non movable , rigid. Air relates to something you can”t touch, empty space, nothingness. Seems like an odd mixture. Aquarians at their best are humanitarians, intellectual, original, inventive, honest and loyal, at their worst they are intractable, unemotional , detached, perverse and unpredictable. Aquarian energy at it’s worst can be quite egocentric.

Aquarius is the sign of the common people, for good or ill. If everybody gets their fifteen minutes of fame, then Neptune in Aquarius was the peak of this, at least I hope so. If one person gets a voice then every person gets a voice, if they deserve to or not, including Snookie. Rush Limbaugh who has had a huge influence on the national psyche in the last decade, is a really good example of the darker side of the Aquarius in Neptune energy projecting its negative archetypal images onto the political arena.

What is the archetype of Neptune in the mutable, water sign of Pisces. Again Neptune is most at home here, and that is probably a good thing. Pisces is all about being imaginative, sensitive, compassionate and kind, selfless, intuitive and sympathetic. Well lets just start with that for now, sweet dreams.

Post T-Square-Really?

I mean really? Really? Is anyone just a little disappointed that some of the more fantastic and dire predictions of the Cardinal T-Square, did not come to fruition. I am for one. I’m also just a little embarrassed. The same feeling you get when you see a really bad actor on stage, where nothing pans out, especially when the performance was built up to be this really great thing. It’s the same feeling you get when you think of Nancy Pelosi at the moment . I mean really, really, who were these people who tried to scare the shit out of us and told us to move to underground bunkers in Utah. I’m not trying to minimize any hard times had by others during this transit. I’m sure people who had this at the time of their solar returns might tell me a different story. I just don’t like it when astrologers get on the doom and gloom bus , it’s not very helpful, it’s not accurate, it’s also irresponsible. We can wait till Uranus opposes Pluto to get truly apocalyptic.

Saturn and Pluto and Apes in the Congo

A primatologist was studying a group of apes who lived in the Congo near a campground. He visited the apes annually. They were a hostile and unhappy group of apes. It was a society characterized by male control and dominance. Females were used for child bearing purposes only. Extra community males who came into the society were either killed or sent back into the wild to die. It was a society based on tactics of fear and intimidation. During a potent Saturn-Pluto transit the apes snuck into the nearby campground and scavenged a considerable amount of tainted meat. The primatologist visited a year later and what he found surprised him. Although many of the apes had perished, the more peaceable and loving apes had seemed to survive , whereas the more aggressive and hostile apes had died off. ” Make love not war”, seemed to be the motto of this new society of apes. If an outside ape wandered in from another tribe he was welcomed. There was a lack of aggression shown towards individuals or groups. Female power-sharing was common place. Diverse sexual behavior was encouraged and nurtured. This was a more happy and loving group of apes. This story is based on fact and fable.

In the Midst of the Cardinal Crisis

Anyone who was born in the first ten days of the Cardinal signs, which are Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn, can tell you that the last two weeks have been anything but serene. Anyone who has planets or midpoints in the first degree of any of these signs also has been especially vulnerable to the present planetary picture. However everyone is being affected by the current planetary configuration known as the T-Square or the Cardinal Crisis, either through their Lunar Returns or just by being on the earth when all this planetary activity is taking place. The good news is that we are in the midst of the Cardinal Crisis . Acutely speaking the worst is over,although that is debatable. I say this because on August 6-7, a Cardinal Cross was activated between Jupiter and Uranus in Aries, Pluto in Capricorn and Saturn, Mars and Venus in Libra, and also the planets involved are no longer aspecting the sensitive Aries Points. In a couple of days we will have another Saturn-Pluto square but this is a theme that has been playing out in our lives for about a year, however I suggest the sense of urgency is over. I think its important to remember that the planets are here to help us grow and evolve. Hard aspects at the end of the day ultimately lead to expanded consciousness. Remember we were once monkeys.

Uranus Entering Aries Changing The Dynamic Of The T-Square

We have already talked about some of the more progressive cultural events that happened during the last Saturn and Uranus opposition of 1964 through 1967, not mentioning the social upheaval and revolutions associated with that period, the Civil Rights Movement, Vietnam and so on. Anyone looking back to the 1950″s and comparing that time period to the mid 1960″s can see a huge cultural shift. During this Saturn and Uranus opposition we have seen revolutions, the people of Kyrgyzstan sending their president packing, the recent revolt in Greece and we will probably see more. We have yet to see any cultural progressiveness, unless you consider Dancing with the Stars a cultural leap. A lot has to do with the signs the planets are in possibly . In 1964 Saturn was in Pisces and Uranus was in Virgo, the planets have switched signs this time round. Pluto the generational sign is presently in traditional Capricorn giving emphasis to government and financial structures, whereas in 1964, Pluto was in the sign of Virgo giving resonance to Uranus. Pluto in Virgo has a lot to do with our relationship to health and well-being and being of service to others. Anyway we will probably see some significant cultural changes when Uranus squares Pluto which is coming up shortly, possibly the present Saturn square Uranus is laying the groundwork for that.

Uranus in a couple of days will move from the passive sign of Pisces into the cardinal sign of Aries, sitting exactly on the Aries Point proper. Jupiter will also move into Aries on June 5th. These two planets have been enervated somewhat recently, not so much as in that they have been in the sign of Pisces but because they have been in the last degree of a sign. Furthermore Uranus and Jupiter on the Aries Point is one of the strongest degrees a planet can be on. This will certainly change the dynamics of the present Saturn and Uranus opposition and the upcoming T-Square (actually at the time of the T-Square we will have three planets on Aries Points or within 3 degrees.) Whereas Saturn has had the upper hand in the present opposition, Uranus on the Aries point conjunct Jupiter will now have the upper hand. This will also give the opposition a lot more energy, usually the last pass of a opposition is the weakest since we have accommodated its energies by that time, but this is basically a new opposition. Aquarius and Aquarius ascendants should be going through some form of transformation as their ruling planet changes signs. Also Aries natives will have electric Uranus and expansive Jupiter transiting their sign.

Saturn Opposing Uranus, Let The Freak Flags Fly

Now that we are in the thick of Saturn opposing Uranus what should we do, or what is the best way to take advantage of these opposing energies. Saturn is the task master, your responsibility, in a sense your foundation, or the foundation you have built up till now. Uranus is your individuality, your sense of freedom, the uniqueness that you bring into this world. When these two planets collide , it is best to err on the side of Uranus, otherwise there results a sort of stalemate. The stalemate creates a sense of boredom, tediousness, where the status quo suffocates. People with this aspect in their natal charts have to revolutionize their lives from time to time to prevent their lives from becoming stagnant. They have to break through to the other side in other words, to build a new foundation. This is the aspect of revolts and revolutions, people who are trying to create something better for themselves. Saturn and Uranus sometimes bring about a silent revolution, such as in the case of the Obama presidency, elected on the exact degree of Saturn opposing Uranus. This time around Saturn is opposing Uranus five times, one which we are previously in, the next occurring on July 26,2010,where it will be one aspect of a potent T-square. The last time a similar aspect occurred was in 1965, 1966 and 1967. Here are some of the happenings that occurred.

Saturn Opposition Uranus -Libertarian Gridlock

Today Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer signed the nations toughest immigration law, making illegal immigration a stat crime and requiring police to question people about their immigration status if officers suspect they are in the U.S. illegally (Wall Street Journal.) Also religious censorship hit the cartoon South Park this week, bleeping the “M” word in a skit with Muhammad dressed in a bear suit. It was selective censorship as the antics of Jesus and Buddha went unscathed. South Park claimed they were afraid for the lives of their employees. Free Speech squelched at the point of a gun. Interestingly this occurred as Saturn is two days away from being exactly opposite Uranus. This is certainly the ugly side of this astrological combination. Saturn representing government structures and outmoded traditions infringing upon Uranus and the rights and liberties of others.

The Upcoming T-Square: Fact or Fiction?

At dinner with a friend recently, he reminded me, “All religions have their apocalyptic theories.” Popular astrology is really no different. Christians have Armageddon, the Mayans have 2012, and Western astrology has the T-Square of July 2010. If you look back on the dour predictions of the ongoing Saturn-Pluto square, you can see that the world has not come to an end as of yet (although I am sure if you lived in Haiti it was no picnic). To be fair to astrology, those who took their funds out of the market before the first Saturn-Pluto square saved a substantial amount of money. However, as the transit is still active, the Dow has just reached 11,000. Being conservative, I am waiting until the last pass of the Saturn-Pluto square in August before entering the Market. Or is it the Saturn-Uranus opposition that is really the culprit – who the hell knows? Look ahead to the upcoming T-Square (coming to your theater in July) and you see the same pessimism building. Let’s face it: predictive astrology presently is sketchy at best.

Astrologers have been writing about the infamous T-Square for years. Bill Street warned us about this T-Square close to a decade ago in his essay “An Alignment for Our Times.” Bill states, “The beginning of the next decade has received much attention by futurists, metaphysicians, and historians of ancient civilizations. This brief but important period of time is considered by many to signal either a leap of human evolution, an exponential increase in creativity, or a time of dramatic societal change.” Okay, the Tea Party has formed and the Healthcare Bill passed. Is this just the first act, or are we like a frog in boiling water, not realizing that he is boiling to death until he has been boiled to death? Speaking of Bill Street, where is this man when we need him? He seems to have left the planet. Maybe he knows something that we don’t, or maybe it was a PR move. Anyway, given the nature of the planets involved in the T-Square, I am sure there will be much activity. We will talk about that later.

Venus Opposes Saturn

Venus in Aries will oppose Saturn in Libra exactly on 3/9/10. This marks the culmination of the Venus-Saturn cycle that began on 10/13/09, when the two planets were in conjunction. The next conjunction will occur on 8/8/10. Conjunctions represent beginnings.

Oppositions occur at the midpoint of the cycle, and offer the potential for objectivity. Oppositions ask that you negotiate and find a balance between two extremes. Venus in Aries is spontaneous, feisty, and focused on self, while Saturn in Libra is more sober and other-focused. These extremes exist in us all. The issue may be balancing the need for alone time versus interacting with others. Or it could be that partnership is enhanced by pursuing individual wants. The growth of each individual would contribute to growth in the relationship.

Mercury will conjunct Jupiter exactly on 3/7/10, at 11 degrees Pisces. Mercury and Jupiter are in some ways polar opposites. Mercury rules Gemini, which opposes Jupiter-ruled Sagittarius on the zodiacal wheel. Gemini is captivated by details; Sagittarius seeks the bigger picture. Gemini writes and Sagittarius publishes. Learning is a function of Gemini, while for Sagittarius it is teaching.
